Content Management at NMSU

NMSU has adopted the MangoCMS for editing and maintaining NMSU-affiliated web sites. MangoCMS is a locally developed non-proprietary CMS for the use of NMSU departments, colleges and units. MangoCMS allows multiple users ("Site Managers" and "Content Contributors") to create, edit and manage web documents through a secure, browser based, WYSIWYG environment. Page authors can write and edit textual content, control navigation, choose templates, import files, and manage user roles through a familiar, consistent interface.

Product demo's are scheduled throughout the semester for departments or units wishing learn more about managing their web presence with MangoCMS. The demo covers aspects of MangoCMS including:

  • page editing
  • site management
  • WYWISIG editing
  • building a navigation scheme
  • page/site migration
  • user roles

There is no fee or departmental charge for users of MangoCMS.

Want to learn more about MangoCMS?
ICT-Product Development Services is formalizing a process for supporting Content Management Services for University departments and units. For departments interested in moving to MangoCMS, an assessment phase must first be completed that includes

  1. Site Analysis - The department should audit all pages within the site to identify defunct, redundant, and non-functional pages. This is also an opportunity to weed pages and files from the site that do not need to migrate.
  2. Workgroup - Who will be responsible for housekeeping of the site? Are there content approvers? Content editors? Is a backup identified who will be able to manage sites and pages? Must content be vetted before it's published?
  3. Project Management- ICT-PDS can consult with the department to identify workflows, requirements and constraints that will impact the site migration. The end product of the assessment phase will be a project timeline.
